Small Business Owner, Writer, and Photographer in Logan, Queensland, Australia
I am a small business owner, writer, and photographer currently living in Logan, Queensland, Australia.
I've been keeping reptiles for over 20 years now (I would give you a number but we all know it's not polite to ask a lady her age!) I got my first reptile at the age of 4 (which I very imaginatively named Lizzie) and there was no looking back.
I, along with my husband, Scott, run our business Nature 4 You. Along with being tagged as some of the best wildlife demonstrators in the country, we have authored books & papers. Conducting wildlife demonstrations is just one facet of our business. We also consult when it is needed. We are lucky enough to keep & breed some of our stunning native wildlife, some of our animals aren't overly common in captivity. Our photography has appeared in publications across the globe, from articles through to books, & digital aids. We have been lucky enough to be involved in some conservation activities that are close to our hearts, & we are regularly asked to speak on podcasts, interviews, expos & at gatherings.
This has led us to meet and come into contact with some really amazing people. I have made some wonderful friends and have had some incredible opportunities come my way. I am always humbled when I reflect back on what I/we have been lucky enough to achieve. Teenage me wouldn't of dreamed I could of achieved what I have to date. Our sons are what fills me with the most joy, but a close second would be my literary achievements - A Naturalist's Guide to the Snakes of Australia & A Naturalist's Guide to the Lizards of Australia - both of which i co-authored with my husband Scott.
I hope that I am able to help at least one person who has an interest in reptiles, either by learning through our publications, or by showing them the beauty our native flora and fauna holds with our photography, but my main desire is for women in the reptile hobby to see that it is possible to be seen as a keeper, not just a female, and if I can do it, anyone can. Passion, dedication, honesty, and a thirst for knowledge and experience is what got me where I am today. (I'm pretty sure my school teachers are in shock!) My interests range from animals, reading and writing to crafts and DIY.
