My Grandfather once told me that there is only so much that you can learn from a textbook. We must go out into the world, explore, meet people and ask questions.
As an educator, I strive to learn something new everyday, whether it is a simple fact or a complicated concept. Bringing new ideas and information to students can support their desire to become life-long learners. Incorporating the world into the classroom and allowing children to explore all the wonderful things the world has to offer is what I want to do.
I have been every so lucky to have had the experiences that have helped shape my life. Being a teacher has allowed me to teach in Canada, Mexico, England and on the Caribbean Island of St. Maarten. Throughout my ten years as a teacher, I have taught many levels and subjects, but one thing remains constant: all students are on a journey to discover themselves and the environment around them.
It is with great honour that I get to be a part of these children's live, who continue to teach me new things about the world and myself. The simplicity and joy that students share help us, as adults, remember to enjoy the little things in life. It definitely is hard work, but to see children achieve and grow makes it all worth it.
