How does one write a biography without making it sound like a job application or a personal ad?

I live and work in the DC area. I have been here eight long years.

I prefer to get out of the DC area, whether by way of the rare international travel or the more frequent escape through movies and novels.

I am a physically active person, but I would not call myself a fitness nut. I am sure there are some who would, though.

I like being outdoors and spending time with my many furry roommates.

My work takes me out of town some. I take those opportunities to look for good food that may not be readily available in the DC area.
