Tiger Lan

Tiger Lan’s skills as a software engineer and product developer have been responsible for numerous contributions to the technology industry over the past decade. Beginning with his foundational work at Microsoft developing Hotmail and revamping it for a Windows platform, Tiger Lan’s expertise has informed many seminal programs from major companies. At Yahoo!, Inc., Lan played a key role in the creation of one of the company’s first internal Web 2.0 products, Trip Planner. With this product, Tiger Lan and his colleagues used the asynchronous Javascript and Ajax to centralize Yahoo!’s Travel, Search, and Market functions, creating a highly user-friendly format and interface. Using Trip Planner, Yahoo! users access an array of travel-related functions from the search engine and plan their trips with a hotel reservation system and interactive calendar designed by Tiger Lan.

Though Trip Planner may be the most well-known product Tiger Lan has developed, he has also created a number of products used regularly by business professionals. Working for Ariba, Inc., from 2000 to 2005, Tiger Lan played a critical role in launching several enterprise software suites, such as Ariba Category Management, Ariba Supplier Network, and Ariba Contract Workbench.

As Director of Engineering at Plaxo, Inc., Tiger Lan’s contributions to the company included the construction of their key product, Plaxo Online 3.0, in 2006. Subsequently Tiger Lan helped reposition the company through the development of Plaxo Pulse 2007 and in 2010 launched Address Book Plaxo 4.0, a high-end application that seamlessly synchronizes contacts across several websites, programs, and devices. In addition to his accomplishments in the development and launching of several programs and online services, Tiger Lan also made several notable contributions related to personnel development and company culture. At Plaxo and Yahoo!, Inc., Tiger Lan instituted both of the company’s hack day brainstorming and development sessions, and at Plaxo, he rebuilt the hiring and operational processes for the engineering team from the ground up. Today, Tiger Lan continues to advance new innovations in his field through his work at online reputation management firm Reputation.com, Inc., as Chief Technology Officer.
