Intro:
My name is Evan Miller and I'm a senior at St. Andrews University. Most people know me as Tiger as that has been my nickname my whole life and a name that has stuck with me. I've played a variety of sports when I was younger but baseball was the sport that got me a scholarship to play in college. Imagine doing something you love and for me it was baseball. Coming to the field with the smell of the grass freshly cut and the smile on my face knowing I'm going to play something I love for the next 2 hours. Hearing the crack of the bat during batting practice and the pop from the glove in the pen from the pitcher warming up gives you that feeling that its game time. Choosing this picture describes how everything in life will sooner or later come to an end. In the picture, I'm in foul territory and looking out in fair territory is the game of baseball and even though I will get older the game will always be there and I have tremendous passion and respect for the game because it has taken me to all parts of the country which many can't say they have done.
Life Experiences:
My first real life experience by myself was when I was 14 years old and flew to Nebraska for a baseball tournament. A tournament which brought players from all over the country to play baseball and to watch the College World Series. I wasn't nervous about being by myself but I was nervous flying on a plane for the first time. I remember my dad giving me a pack of gum saying " you'll need this". Sure enough I knew exactly what he meant as I was high in the sky the gum was used for my ears to open up. It turned out to be a great experience for me and met a lot of new people.
High School:
My high school life was not your typical high school life. I went to three different high schools not because I was bad but wanted a better education. Also at the time I was wanting to pursue the military and West Point baseball was something I wanted to do as they had interest in me. I went to Oak Ridge Military Academy for a year and a half when it was on the verge of shutting down and the rejection of not getting into West Point on top of that made it even worse. It was my first big rejection of my life and took me awhile on how to handle it. Even though things weren't working out I had the chance to transfer to High Point Christian Academy and was a great choice for me as it opened me up to God as well as getting an education. Everyone there was very supportive.
