I’ve been designing and making since my earliest memories. As a child I appropriated objects and materials from around the house. My parents were always supportive of the drawings, origami, paper airplanes, string forms, and wire sculpture I would fill the available space with. My most powerful interests have always revolved around our atmosphere and flight. What started as intense bird envy has become an enduring, and infinitely-versatile passion in my life.
While still diverse, my work is now highly refined. In 2001, I started a handmade technologies company called WindFire Designs which is opperated by me and my beautiful wife Ruth Whiting. A mix of desire, experimental data, and cumulative intuition, our designs are strongly influenced by collected knowledge of the natural world and the material sciences. Designing kites and solving problems under the strict, but generous demands of flight has always revealed the path to the next project.
