I am a Certified Peer Support Specialist and a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist for the Crisis Intervention Team In Hanover County Va. I suffer from Bipolar Disorder, OCH and ADHD. I am the face of Recovery for my Peers and Co-Workers. I also facilitate a Depression Bipolar Support Alliance Peer to Peer Support Group. I am President of the Board of Directors of the DBSA Chesterfield County Va. I am an Advocate for Suicide Prevention and I work with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention for the Richmond Virginia Chapter. I am a member of VOCAL and Nami-Central Virginia. I advocate for legislation concerning Mental Illness. I work to educate the community about Suicide and it's consequences for family and friends. I have been involved with the Mental Health system of Virginia and the United States for many years .The Mental Health system of the United States is broken. The number one disability in the United States vis Depression. The Suicide rates is increasing each year in the US and internationally. No one wants to talk about Mental Illness until the next tragedy. We need to re-vamp the Insurance for the mentally ill and offer more support and services. I hope to one day speak in front of the Virginia Congress and the United States Congress about where we are and what needs to happen to protect the mentally ill and society. There are solutions and they begin with education about the seriousness of Mental Illness. I , personally am not concerned about the stigma concerning Mental Illness but it is alive and well today. I have in my library everything that Earnest Hemingway and Fitzgerald wrote. My favorite contemporary author is John Irving. I love Charles Dickens, The Hobbit and Dune. Catcher in the Rye is on of my favorites. I am interested in politics, religion and History. I have never served in the military. I love social media and I have Facebook friends all over the world. I love economics and philosophy. I am a humble person who is willing to learn from others. Everyone has a story to tell.
