Tim is a proven venture investor and experienced global executive, known for his thought leadership in Gamification, Quantified Self, and Behavioral/Social Science-led Design. He has been named to the Forbes Midas List of Top 100 Tech Investors, as one of CNET’s 12 Most Influential Tech Investors and as a Power Player West, Digital Media and Mobile Power Player by Always On. Tim invests in the mobile, social, adtech, and health 2.0 themes. Tim’s investments include 3D Robotics, OUYA, MOAT, Zirtual, Basis, HealthTap, FitMob, and Syntertainment. He is also involved with Lyft and Tagged. Tim’s prior investments include Badgeville and Lumosity.

Some of Tim’s notable investments in the U.S. include early leaders in mobile and social gaming ngmoco (acquired by DeNA) and Playdom (acquired by Disney), as well as Iridigm Display Corporation (acquired by Qualcomm). Some of Tim’s notable in­vestments in China include AdChina and PCH International. Tim was also involved with investments in Placeware (acquired by Microsoft), NextG Networks (acquired by a private equity syndicate), Borqs, deCarta, and Socialvibe.

Prior to joining Mayfield Fund, Tim spent five years as a Partner at Norwest Ven­ture Partners, investing in the mobile, gaming and digital media sectors and establishing their investment practice in China and Asia Pacific.

Tim’s operational experience includes working in Japan for five-years as a Product Manager for Gateway Inc., where he launched and held P&L responsibility for enterprise products and as a trilingual Engineer for General Motors, working across China, Korea, and Japan.

Tim holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar, and an MS in Electrical Engineering/System Engineering and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Tim is a lifelong musician, and performs with Punjabi hip-hop funk outfit BlackMahal, live EDM act Rainbow Party, and also CoverFlow.

He is also an avid gamer, actor, occasional gym rat, traveler, public speaker, real estate & restaurant investor, graphic novel & sci-fi ethusiast, TEDster, snowboarder, sometimes scuba diver, and often sleep-deprived!
