I am a retired middle school social studies, language arts, STEM and photography teacher, finishing my career in 2022 at Stonington Middle School in Mystic, Connecticut USA. I hold a sixth-year degree in Instructional Technology and Digital Media Literacies from the University of New Haven. I also have a Master's degree in International Teaching from Framingham State College.

During the 2016-17 school year, I took a leave of absence traveling, teaching and blogging around the world, including four months in Vietnam as a Fulbright Distinguished Teacher. Other fellowships have brought me to Kyrgyzstan, Morocco, Germany, Cuba, Korea, and several places in the US. I also spent five years teaching in Bolivia and Brazil early in my career.

I am currently focused on my work with the Westerly Anti-Racism Coalition where I live in Westerly, Rhode Island. In these early years of retirement, I am also exploring new travel and learning opportunities in between spending time with my grandchildren.

My blog, The Alternate Route, is where I write and share photography relating to my teaching, traveling, and learning at home and around the world.
