I am from North America, most recently Tempe, Arizona and now living and working in Kyoto. I was raised in the northern Sonoran desert of Arizona along the Agua Fria river near the towns of Rock Springs and New River. I am an biologist interested in the evolution of protein function and cellular evolution and how these processes contribute to organismal fitness. My primary research focuses on the molecular basis of sexual evolution and the origins of gamete cells, particularly the spermatozoa. I have held professorial positions around the world including the University of Illinois, The University of Chicago, University of Bath (UK) and the Kyoto Institute of Technology (current).
