Timothy Koch
Chef, mathmatician, and actuary in Seattle, Washington
My goal: become an Actuary. I have had a successful career as a chef; the last restaurant I worked at was Big Sky Cafe in San Luis Obispo, California. If you ever explore the Central Coast of California you must stop there for a meal.
I made my north to San Jose, California, the center of the Silicon Valley. Soon I went back to school, entering the BS Applied Mathematics program at San Jose State University (SJSU). My studies included a concentration in Economics & Actuarial Science and a minor in Philosophy.
At SJSU I studied Probability; Statistics; Optimization; SPSS; Linear Programming; SAS Programming; Financial Mgt.; Matlab; Economics; R Statistical software; Mathematical Logic; and Professional Ethics.
Since then I moved to Seattle and have been preparing for my actuarial exams. I have not decided upon an SOA or CAS track.
I moved to Seattle with the prettiest accountant in the whole world. She works at a Big Four firm and is really good at her job. We love living in Seattle as does our cat, Eloise. For fun I play guitar and home- brew beer; I brew hoppy pale ales, IPAs, stouts, porters, and cream ales.
