I'm the gallery director at NIAD Art Center in Richmond, California. We're a studio art program helping adult artists with disabilities tell their stories in contemporary art idioms. We make fantastic work. You should buy some. Or least stop in and see the project.
A long time ago, I answered the telephone, responding to complaints about art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Yeah, I got earfuls of grief when Stallone left the Rocky statute at the top of the museum steps.
Before that I got paid to draw my friends' homework, tracing images out of magazines and comic books into some kind of narrative.
Now, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my wife, journalist and author Nell Bernstein, and our kids Nick and Ruby.
And I make appropriation art, still.
