I'm an award-winning journalist, news editor, communications specialist and photographer with a passion for multimedia storytelling and experience managing global teams.
As Director of Journalism and Media Programmes at the philanthropic arm of the world's leading provider of news and information, I run projects to help foster the highest standards of journalism worldwide. These range from professional training and newsroom consultancies to the creation of independent news agencies in counties in transition.
I was previously Editor-in-Chief of Thomson Reuters Foundation's global news services. I built a team of correspondents on five continents covering the world's under-reported stories: humanitarian issues, the human impacts of climate change, women's rights, corruption and social innovation.
Those services included AlertNet, the world's premier humanitarian news website, and TrustLaw, a global hub of free legal news and information.
I led the creation of the Emergency Information Service for disaster-affected populations, which first deployed immediately after the January 2010 Haiti earthquake. EIS provided life-saving information, in local languages, via local media and other channels.
I was in charge of editorial content for the annual Trust Women Conference, a joint venture between Thomson Reuters Foundation and the International New York Times that is dedicated to putting the rule of law behind women's rights.
I managed the editorial component of the UK government-funded MediaBridge initiative aimed at helping media professionals around the world tackle neglected wars, disasters and health emergencies.
Born in the U.S., raised in Australia, naturalised in Britain and a long-time resident of Japan, I consider myself a global citizen.
