Tineke Verbeek

Counsellor in Wairarapa

Call 027 3586342

I am Tineke Verbeek, a self-employed registered MNZAC counsellor living in the beautiful Wairarapa. Originally from the Netherlands, together with my husband and our children, I moved to Aotearoa NZ in 1988. Raising a family of five, running a farm business, caregiving, providing in-home education for PORSE and mentoring for Fresh Perspective OHF has provided me with a unique set of skills and life experience to underpin my counselling practice.

I stepped into tertiary education later in life and for almost seven years I have been working as a qualified counsellor. The first five years through a local counselling agency and since the beginning of 2022 I have started my own business. I see clients through EAP services and privately. I am also WINZ approved. This means, if you need help funding your counselling sessions, I can support you with applying for WINZ allowance.

My work has focused on supporting clients/tangata with anxiety, depression, stress, grief, abuse, migration issues and the uncertainties around Covid-19. I am passionate about my work and a firm believer in people’s innate ability to discover their own solutions. I see my role as being a guide on the side, helping to facilitate the change process and assisting clients to find hope. Counselling promotes self-awareness, growth & healing, resilience and builds autonomy.

I use a variety of modalities depending on the specific needs of each individual client. These include: Person-Centred, Strengths-based, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Interactive Drawing Therapy (IDT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I will sometimes introduce the use of tools such as journaling or the use of small figurines during sessions to bring another angle to the process.

I can provide remote counselling through Zoom.
