Xiao Zhang

Xiao Zhang received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the State Key Laboratory of Grassland Agro-ecosystem, Lanzhou University, a prestigious institution whose research capability in Ecology ranks in the top 2 in China. Xiao Zhang obtained his PhD in 2021 in the Bailey lab at the University of St Andrews and was then appointed associate professor (B1-level) and supervisor of postgraduate research students (MSc) at Tianjin Normal University.
Xiao Zhang has studied evolutionary biology for 10 years using genomics, population genetics, and bioinformatics. He has published 13 peer-reviewed articles in top journals such as Nature Communications, Evolution Letters, and Communications Biology, and he is named on two industrial biotechnology patents. Zhang has held several grants as lead Principal Investigator, including a National Natural Science Foundation of China grant (NSF of China). He focuses on understanding how different evolutionary events such as mutation, genetic drift, migration, and hybridization interact to dictate evolutionary trajectories in rapidly changing environments.
