Thandwayo Lunika

Student, Teacher, and Volunteer

My name is Thandwayo Lunika, I am a preservice English and History teacher. I am currently doing my third year at the University of Johannesburg. I am passionate about teaching as I view it as a way of giving back to the community and an opportunity to contribute to the future generation. I fundamentally believe that the values and skills we instill into our students now mould them into the adults they became. As teachers, it is our duty to help create upright citizens. I have a humanist approach to teaching, and I believe that learners should be viewed as whole human beings and treated as such. I also believe that learners should be encouraged to collaborate and learn from each other. James Keller once said a candle loses nothing by losing another candle. I agree with this ideology and always try to implement it in my pedagogy. I have a deep sense of community and believe in ubuntu. I enjoy reading books Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and NoViolet Bulawayo are my favourite authors. I enjoy poetry as well, and my favourite poet is Jessica Mbangeni. I am also interested in volunteering , currently involved in The Link literacy and IOHA programs.
