Take My Word For It! Chicago

Founded and created by educator Sondra Hall, "Take My Word For It!" (TMWFI) is a creative writing program dedicated to igniting kids' passion for writing by encouraging them to see themselves as authors with something important to say. We create a safe and supportive environment with one-on-one time for each young writer. Our curriculum and writing activities are flexibly designed to meet different learning styles and include a wide variety of kid-approved themes.

Knowing that each child is unique, our program develops and strengthens kids' individual comfort level with writing through a series of innovative writing activities. For reluctant writers, our approach provides a positive experience as well as a chance to be heard, both of which go a long way towards changing their outlook on writing. Our one-on-one attention helps each student rise to their potential and assuages their fear of "not doing it right". Each session culminates in a reading where our young authors present their original pieces for parents and friends. This builds their confidence with public speaking and encourages the class to see themselves as a community of writers.
