Taylor Myers

Educator in Beallsville, Ohio

Growing up in the Appalachian mountains of southeastern Ohio, as the son of a union steelworker and union schoolteacher, I know the struggles of working families all too well. That's why I'm proud to be a Monroe County native and middle class champion.

I am excited that I now fight to achieve education equality and support public schools by teaching integrated social studies at Warren New Tech High School in Warrenton, North Carolina as a Teach for America (TFA) Corps Member.

I graduated from Marietta College in 2015, where I studied History, Education, Political Science, and Teacher Leadership as part of Marietta's liberal arts foundation. I recently served as Ted Strickland's Traveling Chief of Staff and Director of Appalachian Engagement on the Strickland for U.S. Senate campaign.

In college, I led the Marietta College Student Government Association (President, Treasurer, Parliamentarian), successfully completed the MC Honors Program, and thrived as a member of the McDonough Leadership Program. I also served as President of College Democrats of Ohio, leading 30 chapters across the state. I paid for my college degree entirely on my own, in part by serving as a resident assistant and working in admissions as a senior interviewer and tour guide.

Prior to college, I graduated Valedictorian of the Beallsville High School Class of 2011. I served as class president 7-12 grades, was elected Prom King, and served as National Honor Society President. Additionally, my coaches named me captain of the football, basketball, & track teams at Beallsville, where I earned a total of 9 varsity letters.

I previously worked as a full-time substitute classified aide at Olentangy Orange High School, where I educated eleven students in the moderate/severe multi-handicapped unit in all content and life areas and worked 1-on-1 with a student with autism to develop life skills and advance content knowledge.
