Today In America

United States

Labor unions today in America.

This is a forum of workers who have come together with the aim of attaining certain goals in theirworking conditions and the salaries that they earn. The main aim of labor unions is to make sure thatemployee working conditions are best looked at and they are free from harm and other things that mayoccur during working hours. The union takes into consideration all the employees problems and alsosubmits them to the top management on behalf of the employees.

During the eighteen century in Europe workers introduced a forum that offered an opportunity to othermembers who used to stay at home without jobs ad were now able to enter the job market. Thesetrade unions played a very important role towards the attaining of the independence and although theirefforts were not so much recognized they were however able to protect the workers in the America.

In the United States these trade unions were introduced in the nineteenth century and this is when thefirst labor union was introduced. This union was formed in 1866 and was not meant for any memberbut was meant to represent all workers. However the union did not last for long and after a few trials itfailed to accomplish its objectives and had to close down. It did not take long and another was formedin 1869 with about 700,000 members. Their main issue was to curb child labor and also fight for an eighthour day. In 1886 another labor union was formed which was known as the American federation oflabor and had about 1.4 million people. Its main mission was to change the workers working conditionssuch as putting in place safety measures and also advocating for good salaries and increments.

The unions formed then have been able to serve the same purpose as today and not so much haschanged. This is because even in the recent times the labor unions are still strongly fighting againstchild labor, safety in the workplace, good working conditions. Raising their standards of living and alsooffering other benefits to the workers and their families too. Joining a trade union is important todaybecause corruption has become so rampant and at any time one can lose his or her job without havingto say anything but when one is in a labor union then they can be able to represent you and even fightfor your rights.
