Todd Shapera

For the past several years, New York-based professional photographer Todd Shapera has volunteered his time and talent to charitable causes in East Africa. Working with Winrock International, he documents infrastructure development projects in northern Uganda. Todd Shapera previously produced a collection of photography for Hatua Likoni, a nongovernmental organization in Kenya that seeks to improve the quality of life in the town of Likoni through mentoring, career assistance, and scholarships.

From his home in Pleasantville, New York, Todd Shapera has developed a career over the past 30 years as a self-employed photojournalist and lifestyle photographer. After completing a master of arts in economic development at the Columbia University School of International Affairs in 1981, he went on to produce documentaries and photo collections for media outlets as diverse as National Public Radio, National Geographic Adventure, Fast Company, and Gastronomica, as well as such nonprofit organizations as the EcoLogic Development Fund, City Year, the Ford Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

In addition to his documentary work, Todd Shapera produces portrait, wedding, and Bar Mitzvah photography that is known throughout New York and the Hudson Valley. His work was featured in Westchester Magazine’s Westchester Weddings in one of the Weddings of the Year in 2011. He also serves as the official photographer for Rye Country Day School.
