Todd Wagner
Founder, CEO, and Producer in Dallas, Texas
As a serial entrepreneur and successful businessman, Todd Wagner follows a philosophy of never resting on his laurels. Wagner is the founder and CEO of Charity Network, a company that utilizes the influence of celebrity, media, and technology to raise awareness and funds for worthy causes across the world. Under his leadership, the venture has amassed over 200 million dollars for nonprofits — and intends to push that number even higher in the years to come. Todd Wagner also co-owns 2929 Entertainment with prominent businessman and investor Mark Cuban, and is well-known as the founding force behind Yahoo’s Broadcast.com.
Todd Wagnerfound his professional start in law, rather than business. He attended Indiana University as an undergraduate, and obtained a law degree from the University of Virginia; in the years following his graduation, Wagner made a name for himself as a hard-working and confident professional in the legal field.
By 1998, Todd Wagner and Cuban were in a position to rebrand and take the company public — just in time to benefit from the .com boom. A year later, Wagner and Cuban sold the newly-minted Broadcast.com to Yahoo! for $5.7 billion. Wagner remained at the helm of the venture for a few more years under new leadership and was even offered a position as Yahoo’s Chief Operating Officer on the strength of his work. He turned it down, already looking towards the new opportunities on the horizon.
After his departure from Yahoo! In 2003, Todd Wagner reconnected with Mark Cuban and used the success of Broadcast.com to build yet another venture that would prove to be successful: 2929 Entertainment. Commonly known as 2929, the company possesses holdings in film production and distribution, home entertainment, television syndication, and theatrical distribution. Wagner remains at the helm as the company’s CEO to this day. In more recent years, he has divided his expertise between 2929 and Charity Networks, a parent company for philanthropy-minded ventures he founded in 2014. Charity Network has seen considerable success since its founding; its combined platforms have serviced well over 3,500 charities and raised hundreds of millions of dollars for worthy causes across the globe. Most importantly, the company democratizes charitable giving by providing campaigns with access to donors across the financial spectrum— from ultra-high net individuals to lower-tier contributors.
