Tom Anagnost
Soccer Coach in Raleigh, North Carolina
With a BA in political science and history from Kalamazoo College and a secondary teacher certification from Saginaw Valley State University, Tom Anagnost has a long history of teaching the youth thru their involvement in sport. An Academic All American student-athlete as an undergraduate, Tom Anagnost also continued to excel on the field upon graduation. He subsequently not only spent two years playing professional soccer, but was also nominated as an All Star in his final year of professional play. In 2011, he was inducted into the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame, again rising and joining the elite group of athletes wherever he has been.
Possessing a passion for teaching others, Tom Anagnost leveraged his own sports experience and education to teach youth, high school- and college-level soccer players. As the head coach of women’s soccer at the University of Miami, he guided his team to achieve an overall record of 19-15-5 and set school season records for shutouts and fewest goals against. He led his teams to new heights beating #1 Florida State, ACC champion Maryland, Big ten tournament champion Ohio State and tying UCF the AAC champion and West Virginia the Big 12 champion. He took the team to the NCAA tournament two years in a row and to the second round for the first time in school history. Prior to that, Mr. Anagnost served as the head coach of women’s soccer at Central Michigan University, where he achieved an overall record of 45-12-7 and broke almost every school record along the way. He won the regular and tournament championship both years as the head coach in 09-10. He is still the only coach to win a regular season or tournament championship. Both years he went to the NCAA tournament and went to the second round (again both school firsts). In 2014 and 15, he served at the University of Michigan under the former Head US National Team Coach Greg Ryan, an experience he values greatly. Currently, he leverages his knowledge to lead the women’s soccer team at North Carolina State University as an assistant coach.
In his free time, Tom Anagnost enjoys biking, fishing, running, and other outdoor activities in addition to spending time with his family. He is very close to his niece and nephew and tries to see them every chance he gets. An avid traveler, he has visited most states in the United States, and has lived in Greece and Spain, and traveled throughout Europe.
