Tomas Halasz

Tomáš Halász (*1984) a photojournalist from Slovakia who specializes in NGO photography. He discovered his passion for photography when he was 13 years old. While he was studying photography in high-school he focused on photojournalism.
He started his career working for a local daily. Later he moved to Great Britain. After Tomas returned to Slovakia he worked for a number of national media outlets, including the Czech press Agency, ČTK, the daily Pravda and the News Agency of the Slovak Republic, TASR. He has been a freelance photographer since 2010.
He is a member of the creative studio Magritte, NGO Public section 9, a co-founder as well as a chairman of the Association of visual journalists of Slovakia.
His photographs have been published by major Slovak publications and appeared in the American news agency AP and the Canadian weekly L'actualité. He has worked for number of NGO's including crowd-funding philanthropy website Dakujeme.sme.sk, Greenpeace Slovakia, Open society foundation, NGO Dvojfarebny svet and People against racism to name the biggest. He has received the international Czech Press Photo Award and he has been several times awarded by the Literary Fund .
As press photographer has covered many international events, political summits and mass demonstrations. As freelancer he choose to cover various topics about development, women rights and social issues in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia as well as awareness raising campaigns for NGOs.
Tomas is based in Bratislava, Slovakia, Eastern Europe.
