I come from Cracow, Poland, but for the last four and half years I have lived in the UK. I moved here having nothing but a room rented through gumtree and as much clothes as I could fit into a suitcase but aiming to conquer the world. The first goal was to live independently. I managed to do so and working full time and studying full time made me who I am.
Until this summer I was a proud anthropology student at the University of Aberdeen. Even though it was not a love at first sight, I soon developed a passion for this most mysterious of social sciences. Over the years I learned that literary no one is aware of what anthropology really is, and that is a shame when we consider that a great part of this discipline is dedicated to the study of underprivileged groups, working against social misconceptions, prejudices, and stereotypes. Anthropology portrays the world in a provocative and slightly disturbing way, bringing more questions than answers, making you think and leaving you annoyed with the reality around you, willing to act. My anthropological interests focus on unequal power relations and marginalisation. I am certain that no matter what I am going to do in my life, I will never stop thinking as an anthropologist, and I really hope that I will be able to use the creative and analytical approach acquired over the last four years in my professional career.
Being a student, I was lucky to derive part of my income from something that I can undeniably call my passion. For the last two years I have been a self-employed video editor, cooperating with Eternal Ltd and workig mainly with wedding videos. Editing is a great way to express one’s creativity. Each film is different, and each editing is like looking for a perfect story that is to be extracted from hours of footage.
At the end of September I moved to Kent to begin a new chapter, find a new challenge, and hopefully develop my passions and interests. I’m hoping to find work, which would be socially meaningful and involve creativity.
