Tom Fabian
Toronto, Ontario
I am a Toronto-born, Hungarian-raised, former university athlete who loves sports, works in management consulting, and lives in Mount Pleasant Village. Life's been good to me, and I've been good to life. Here's my quick bio:
Early Life
I grew between North York (Dad's) and Lawrence Park (Mom's). I have a younger sister and two younger half-brothers, and my parents split when I was three. I've had five dogs: Kusu, Emma, Fletcher, Murphy, and Lily in Toronto; and one cat (Proht - silent T) throughout university.
Education and Athletics
I went to John Fisher Public School (french immersion) from SK-6. Afterwards, I went to the local middle school, Glenview, for 7-8, but it wasn't for me. I was priviledged enought to attend St. Michael's College School for high school, which was where my love sports began. I played a different varsity sport every semester in high school. In my senior year, I made OFSAA in all three sports I played - volleyball, swimming (breaststroke), track (400m) - and I was awarded with an Outstanding Graduating Athlete award. During my last two years of high school I played for the Toronto West Volleyball Club. I ended getting scholarships to every school I applied to, except McGill. So where did I end up going: McGill. I ended up taking Kinesiology (study of human movement), playing four years of varsity volleyball, and being elected VP Internal of the student union in my last year. It was a great five years, but I hated school and wouldn't do it again. Suffice it to say, I almost cried when I walked across the graduation stage because I knew I would never have to step back in a classroom again...
Career
After graduating I finally got a job with Maple Leaf Sport & Entertainment - the organization that owns the Leafs, Raptors, Marlies, and Toronto FC - as an inside sales rep (basically making cold calls to businesses to buy tickets). It was a good segway into the business world, but slinging tickets wasn't for me. I had a buddy that worked at a management consulting firm, Carpedia International, and got me a job, so I've been working here ever since.
Conclusion
I've been pretty lucky in my life - staying in school, good folks, landing a decent job - and I'm thankful for everyone that's got me to where I am. I enjoy life to the fullest, but my next steps will likely start overflowing the beer stein.
