Tom Hearn
I am a doco maker and digital media artist and love telling stories. I have a Master of Arts from AFTRS and am most comfortable working in Remote Indigenous communities, crowdfunding, crowdsourcing and campaigning environments but especially enjoy finding characters who have an amazing story or a client that has a vision to change the world. My passion for story and people is how I accidentally started my social enterprise BushTV. BushTV published its first 60-second TV story a decade ago and since then has published over 500 digital stories for TV networks and client social media platforms. Tired of the negative stereotypes of Aboriginal people, I started creating stories of amazing people and discovered a community of people who felt as passionate about these stories as I did. In 2004 I was awarded the Reconcilitation Award by the Queensland Government for training Indigenous media producers in the field, which resulted in a new generation of filmmakers. My passion is making a difference by working in remote communities. I am particularly interested in the convergence of digital media and traditional storytelling. I enjoy collaborating and working with people on innovative media/art projects and developing social enterprises that provide grass roots economic sustainabilty.
