During this time, he worked as a research assistant for a national economic research organization.

Before he started working in the financial industry, Tom Kutzen earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Ohio's Oberlin College. In 2010, Tom joined the college's investment committee as a member of its professional staff. He has since become the trustee emeritus.

Aside from working in the financial industry,Tom Kutzen enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf. During the 1990s, he was able to complete six New York City Marathons in a row. He also enjoys competing in various competitive sailing events, such as the China Sea Race and the Chicago Yacht Club.
