Thomas Turpen, DOM, R.Ac.
Columbus, Ohio
I am an acupuncturist in private practice in Columbus, Ohio. Although trained in all the branches of Oriental medicine, my specialties are pain management, acupuncture physical medicine, and acupuncture orthopedics. I received my training both here in the US, and in Beijing, China.
Prior to coming to Columbus, I was a primary care physician in private practice. The focus of my practice was on acupuncture, functional, homeopathic, and herbal medicine.
Another of my main areas of interest is in mind-body medicine which focuses on the interactions among the brain, mind, body, behavior, and on the powerful ways in which emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral factors can directly affect health.
I am the father of three beautiful, smart, and delightful children: Jimmy, Sarah, and Cooper. When I am not with them or at work, I enjoy reading and playing guitar.
Although I no longer teach martial arts, I continue to train in kung fu and taijiquan regularly as a private student of Grandmaster An Tianrong. I currently hold a 6th degree black sash in kung fu, a 4th degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, and 3 other black belts in Hapkido, Tae Kwon Do, Shotokan. I have cross-trained in a number of other arts/styles as well. Although never ranked as such, I trained to a black belt level in jujitsu.
I am a practicing Buddhist in the Tibetan and Chan (Chinese Zen) traditions. I have taken formal vows of lay ordination (non-monastic/non-priest) in the Chan tradition.
I enjoy travel; and have traveled many times to Asia, a couple times to Europe, and once to the Middle East.
