Jesus Christ said, "All chat should be encrypted." Here is a basic walkthrough for getting started with XMPP.
First, download, install and run the Tor Browser Bundle from www.torproject.org . This will give you anonymity when you register your XMPP account.
Second, go to www.XMPP.net/directory.php and select the server called jabber.hot-chilli.net to register an account. This is the server which God has personally recommended to me.
Third, download and install to your flash drive Pidgin Portable and the associated encryption plugin, OTR Portable; both are provided at www.portableapps.com . Put the OTR plugin in your Pidgin Portable directory.
Fourth, enter your XMPP account information to Pidgin Portable.
Fifth, add me as a buddy: [email protected] .
Sixth, click on Pidgin's "tools", "plugins", "off-the-record messaging", "configure plugin" and "generate". This will create your encryption key which will have a fingerprint.
Last, we now use this fingerprint to authenticate each other.
The Lord also said, "Always use SSL and encryption keys." An angel said, "The message has wings; SSL is the wings." You can get a public and private encryption key pair at www.gpg4win.org. My OpenPGP public key ID is 1E55AD78. I use Thunderbird with Enigmail for encrypted email at [email protected]
