Michael Toney

Dr. Toney has worked with the U.S. DoD for more than 25 years. He has supported organizational and process redesign efforts for operations centers of several U.S. defense organizations such as DISA, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Marine Corps from locations across the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. He has held a succession of leadership positions with responsibility for project, group, and task management in developing and implementing global process and technology projects. He shares a patent pending for a business modeling methodology and software application. He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration, specializing in organizational and leadership behavioral analysis. During his tour in the Middle East, he researched the application of organizational behavior and leadership theories to the characterization and performance of terrorist organizations. After conducting an exploratory literature review, he modeled the organizational behavior, leadership and performance of terrorist organizations, which became the subject of his first book, Terrorist Organizational Behavior. In his second book, Organizational Behavior Profile: al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), he applied the organizational behavior and leadership framework to AQIM, a notorious and violent terrorist organization operating in Northern Africa. He authored two magazine articles, al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb for the Journal for Law Enforcement, Intelligence & Special Operations Professionals, and Northern Africa's Most Wanted: Abdelmalek Droukdel for The Counter Terror Business magazine. His most recent book, Terrorist Leader Profiles and Comparative Behavioral Analysis, applies a leadership behavior model to five violent leaders, producing a unique comparative insight into their behaviors. He is married for almost 20 years to Kleo, and has three kids, Victoria, Michael and Zoe. He also has two dogs, Skip and Chewie.
