Tony Armstrong
Project Manager in Dorchester, United Kingdom
Hi!
I am a former British Army Senior Non Commissioned Officer who served with the King's Royal Hussars and Royal Corps of Army Music for 24 years before leaving in 2009. I have gone on to work in a diverse range of leadership and managerial roles across the Voluntary and Public sectors developing volunteering and employment opportunities for young people, workforce development and leading on health equality and quality assurance programmes for the Veteran & Armed Forces community.
I am firm believer in professional development and achieved a Batchelor's Degree with the Open University, Project Management and Leadership qualifications with the NHS Leadership Academy and am a Mental Health First Aider.
Before starting my current role with the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance I lead on the delivery of the Governments Kickstart scheme at Dorset County Hospital, one of the biggest employers in West Dorset. The scheme provided unique job placements for 16-24 year-olds at risk of long term unemployment and disengagement. The scheme supported 35 placements and 80% of these placements resulted in the trainees being employed into permanent roles. You can read the Health Anchors Learning Network Kickstart case study here.
I am very happy to tell my story to any young people, service leavers and veterans about taking that first step on the employment ladder, how to start networking, grow your own profile and how to translate skills learnt in the Forces, University or volunteering to what is really important to business.
