From Flying on Intelligence Missions to Finance: Building Bridges Through Communication

Hi everyone! I’m Tony, and I grew up in San Antonio, though I've spent most of my adult life away from home, living in places like Monterrey, Washington D.C., as well as Omaha, and the U.K. three times each. I will be retiring from the USAF in October 2026 as a Senior Operations and Compliance Manager with 20 years of experience advancing strategic initiatives, currently based in the U.K. My goal is to transition into the financial sector in London, where my strong background in analysis, mission-focused execution, and cross-cultural communication, developed during my military service, will thrive. I’m currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration, leveraging my unique experiences and expertise to refine my skills through real-world applications, with the ultimate goal of excelling in the financial services sector.

Outside of work, I enjoy trying out new food spots, hiking scenic trails and mountains, and practicing photography while traveling and spending time outdoors. These often lead to conversations about local cultures and experiences during my trips. Recently, I’ve been preparing for life after the military, delving deeper into connecting with professionals in finance and gaining insights on career transitions from other veterans.

Business communication has been essential throughout my entire military career, especially when clarifying complex data for diverse teams and clients. How has strong communication influenced a key relationship in your career, and what aspect of business communication are you most eager to develop in this course?
