As the author of "The Coral Reef Aquarium" and the publisher of VargasReef Magazine I started my aquatic adventures at the age of seven, with Guppies in a pickle jar. Fast forward to the mid 1980's where I took a giant leap forward and experimented with marine invertebrates and corals. At that point in time a sump loaded with Bio-balls was the biological filter of choice. Moving forward to the late eighties a handful of aquarist and myself were among the first in United States to successfully keep and maintain Acropora alive in captivity, long term.
I started to share my experiences with others through the many articles written on the subject. These articles were written in a column called "Feature Coral" for FAMA. One of the Acropora articles in FAMA was acknowledge by Carden Wallace in her text book on Acropora titled "Staghorn Corals of the World".
Today, I travel the world giving lectures and consulting on proper upkeep of corals, reef fish in a captive environment, and personal home aquarium designs. Furthermore, I created a company called Tony's Vault a facility design to condition all our newly imported creatures. This facility properly conditions all the animals for long term survival rates.
My book titled "The Coral Reef Aquarium" focuses on the basics of reef keeping, how to properly assemble a coral reef aquarium (five great examples), and the long term care of these critters in a captive environment. One of the best selling book of its kind during the digital era.
