I conduct the Men's Glee Club, Jazz Vocal Ensemble and the Gospel Choir. In July of 2011, I began a community-based, outreach worship ministry, THE CALL 2 WORSHIP COMMUNITY CHOIR OF CHARLOTTE, NC, an interdenominational fellowship of singers, musicians, and worship leaders who promote the study and performance of all genres of African American church music. I earned the bachelor of music eductaion degree (piano/choral music) in 1994 from Appalachian State University as NC Teaching Fellow. I later moved to Charlotte, NC to become choral director at Olympic High School (1996-2000). The choral program at OHS received state-wide, regional and international recognition and included several graded concert choirs (women's ensemble, chamber choir, concert choir and gospel choir). In 1997, I began working at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church as a part-time choir director/pianist. In 2000, I accepted the position as full-time Minister of Music & Arts at FMBC-Charlotte and served in that capactiy until 2009. The DeiVision of Music & Arts encompassed vocal music, instrumental music, visual arts, deaf ministry, drama, dance and children/youth ministries for 400+ participants. The ministry received two Worship Renewal Grants from the Calvin College Institute for Christian Worship. In 2009, I was awarded the doctorate of worship studies degree from the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies (Orange Park, FL). The title of my doctoral thesis project is FROM FUNERAL TO FEAST: RENEWING THE CELEBRATION OF HOLY COMMUNION IN AFRICAN AMERICAN BAPTIST CHURCHES IN CHARLOTTE, NC THROUGH CONGREGATIONAL SINGING.
