Hopes Malaysia is a Malaysian non-governmental organisation that works with rural communities in Sabah. It was founded in 2016 and is based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The organisation focuses on helping rural families meet their basic needs through long-term and practical solutions.

Hopes Malaysia does not provide short-term aid. Instead, it works directly with villagers to help them become more independent and improve their quality of life.

What Hopes Malaysia Does

Hopes Malaysia focuses on five main areas that affect daily life in rural Sabah.

Clean water
Many rural villages do not have public water supply. Hopes Malaysia installs gravity-fed water systems to bring clean water from natural sources to homes.

  • Over 200 km of water pipes installed
  • Clean water provided to 30 villages
  • Water access improved for 50,000 people since 2016

Sustainable farming and food security
With stable water access, rural families are supported to start farming. They are trained to grow vegetables, fruits, and raise fish.

  • 900+ families supported
  • 50,000+ kg of food harvested
  • Families earn about 40 percent more income
  • Food expenses reduced by about 40 percent

Rural bridge repair
Old suspension bridges in rural areas are unsafe, especially for children going to school. Hopes Malaysia repairs these bridges together with villagers.

  • 5+ bridges rebuilt or repaired
  • Over 7,500 metres of bridge length restored
  • 4,500 villagers now travel more safely
  • Travel time reduced by up to 60 minutes

Education for rural children
Many rural children struggle with English due to limited resources. Hopes Malaysia runs a free English reading programme.

  • 20 students per programme
  • 20 weeks of lessons
  • 75 percent improvement in reading level
  • 100 percent of students showed progress

Environmental and sustainable feed projects
Urban food waste is collected and reused as animal feed for rural farmers.

  • 100 kg of food waste reused every month
  • Farming feed costs reduced by 50 percent
  • Families can raise more fish and poultry

Hopes Malaysia Campaigns

Hopes Malaysia Campaigns is the organisation’s online crowdfunding platform. It allows the public, donors, and companies to support verified rural projects directly.

Since 2016, Hopes Malaysia has completed:

  • 50+ projects
  • Work in 40+ villages
  • Support for 50,000+ people

Campaigns focus on clean water, farming, bridge safety, education, women’s income, sustainable feed, and rural coffee farming.

Why Support Matters

Rural families in Sabah face daily challenges such as water shortage, high food costs, unsafe access routes, and limited education. Support helps these families become stable and independent.

Every contribution supports long-term change, not short-term help.
