Kandis Troutman

Kandis S. Troutman's passion for dance was ignited the moment she stepped onto the dance floor of Dancer's Studio in her hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee over twenty-six years ago. It was there her studying of modern dance technique, improvisation, classical Ballet, composition, and jazz would begin. In 1990, she auditioned for The Tennessee Children's Dance Ensemble.

Kandis would spend the next eight years performing in about fifty performances annually; touring the United States and Asia; becoming a Goodwill Ambassador for the State of Tennessee; learning over 120 pieces of choreography from legendary artists Eleo Pomare, Peter Pucci, Randy Duncan, Claire Bataille, Ze Eva Cohen, and Michael Mao. Exposure to such professionalism taught her the importance of analyzing technique in order to retain a standard of excellence in style and performance.

Entering the Dance Program at Howard University, as the first Special Talent scholar, she was blessed with the opportunity to train with numerous influential African American artists. While at Howard she was a member of the Bisonette Dance Ensemble, participated in various student organizations, attended and performed at The International Association of Black Dance Conference and The Dance Theatre of Harlem.

In 2002, graduating Cum Laude with a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Theatre Arts, Kandis was ready to pour herself into studying and developing a choreographic style that suited her body, was expressive, and fed her spirit. Recruited by Knox County Schools System in 2004 the opportunity presented itself as a jazz instructor at Austin-East Magnet High School (a performing arts school in the inner city). By the following year she was co-director of the dance company, technical director of the theatre, a Golden Apple recipient, teacher of the year, and a Who's Who Among American Teachers.

Relocating to Atlanta, GA in 2008 her communications skills would be tested as a community director for the March of Dimes. Kandis is a mom and involved in the community as a member of the Metro Atlanta Urban League Young Professionals, Mastery for Women Successful Thinkers (member), Fabulous Friends of Philanthropy (board), Morfiss Foundation (board).

Her experiences and knowledge coupled with her personal passion for dance and a desire to make a difference for youth has led to the creation of Top Class Productions and The Top Class Foundation.
