Tommy Wilson
My background in graphic design and art direction molded my first concepts of image making. The goals were to inform, educate and influence. As an emerging fine artist, my ambitions for the work I create are nearly the same: to inform, educate, influence and additionally, to inspire. This approach to developing art resonates at my core.
I currently work primarily with oil paint and canvas to develop two-dimensional work. Part of my creative practice is to constantly question my own understanding of the subjects I choose and how I personally relate to them. At the same time, I feel strongly about creating works that question, examine and/or validate our humanity; works that capture our individuality and our relativeness to others. We are all connected at the most fundamental level and our relationships with one another help define who we are. I would like to think that on some level, my art helps generate questions around the choices and actions we take or support as a society. Ultimately, I feel I have a personal responsibility to contribute elements of substance; works that add to the conversations of humanity.
