Native of Denver, Colorado. Graduate of Rutgers College and Temple University. Former Fulbright scholar in Ecuador. Journalist and photographer since 1983. Former correspondent for the Dallas Morning News. Former bureau chief in Mexico City and Havana. Received Pulitzer Center grants in 2010 and 2011. Interests include: the U.S. government role in the democracy movement in Cuba.
