trevor vaugh

Trevor is lecturer with the Department of design innovation at Maynooth University and an industrial designer with more than 15 years experience, primarily in the medical device sector. During this time he has worked across Europe, Asia and North and South America helping develop ground-breaking products and concepts for companies such as Olympus, Gyrus, Ethicon, Covidien, Bard and Teleflex.

While heading the design department at Advanced Surgical Concepts, Trevor was heavily involved in the identification, conceptualisation, development, promotion and strategic direction of a number of important devices, including the TriPort - a groundbreaking laparoscopic access port that enables virtually scarless surgery. The TriPort is used by surgeons across the globe, and was named as one of the Cleveland clinic’s top 10 innovations of 2009.

Trevor has seen product and furniture desing work exhibited and retailed internationally, and featured across international design media. In 2010, after exhibiting at the Milan furniture fair, a number of his products went into production with US retailer Crate&Barrel.

Trevor currently sits on the council of the Institute of Designers in Ireland overseeing the product and industrial design section. In 2013 Trevor joined the Department of Design Innovation at Maynooth University and is undertaking doctoral research investigating the use and role of experimentation and learning in the radical reorientation of a emergent firms.
