Trinity-Pawling School
With a sprawling, 150-acre campus that overlooks the picturesque Hudson River Valley, college preparatory institution Trinity-Pawling School prides itself on combining traditional values with a progressive education. Trinity-Pawling School rewards its students for trying and scores their efforts more than their achievements. In the words of founder Dr. Frederick Luther Gamage, who established Trinity-Pawling School in 1907, “the only time a boy truly fails is when he fails to try.” Today, Trinity-Pawling School remains dedicated to Dr. Gamage's philosophy. The Trinity-Pawling School staff implemented the Effort System, which ranks students based on their level of participation in academics, campus and dormitory life, work, and extracurricular programs. Every six weeks, students receive placement in one of five levels of effort, and the highest ranking group receives the most generous benefits. On campus, Trinity-Pawling School students can participate in athletics such as football, baseball, soccer, hockey, squash, golf, and cross country, as well as creative programs such as theater, music, and visual arts. During weekends, Trinity-Pawling School indulges its hardworking students with activities that range from expeditions in Manhattan to ski trips and visits to Six Flags New England. As an all-boys institution, Trinity-Pawling School also coordinates with neighboring same-sex schools to regularly host social events and dances. Trinity-Pawling School immerses its students in a rich curriculum that includes courses in everything from Computer Science to Philosophy and Religion. Most recently, Trinity-Pawling School added Mandarin Chinese to its Foreign Language program, in recognition of China's rising influence in global politics and economy. Students learn about the language structure of Mandarin as well as China's culture and literature. Each student also receives specialized attention from Trinity-Pawling School counselors, whose purpose is to help the boys find their educational strengths, work on their weaknesses, and garner acceptance into the college that best matches their goals and abilities.
