I am currently a Hospitality and Tourism Management major in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and am also pursuing a minor in Resource Economics. Ever since seeing 'The Wedding Planner' when I was 7 years old I have wanted to plan weddings and private events. Although I have come to realize that event planning is not as glamorous as Jennifer Lopez makes it out to be, I still love the feeling you get when you see an event all come together.I interned with the Saphire Event Group this past summer as an assistant coordinator. We did approximately 3-4 weddings a weekend, and despite the long hours and hard work it solitified my love and passion for event planning. Nothing beats the feeling of seeing a brides reaction of when she first sees the ballroom for the first time and she continuously thanks you for making this above and beyond all of her wildest dreams, or when a bridesmaid can't fit into her dress so you improvise and get a pair of pliers to help get the zipper up and the entire bridal party thanks you for saving the day. It's the best feeling in the world taking someones vision and dreams and turning them into a reality. That is why I want to be an event planner, I want to be a part of making someone's special day the best day of their life. After I graduate, I hope to move to New York City and work for an Event Planning Company, hopefully one that speicalizes in weddings. Once I have gained enough experience and learned as much as possible, I would like to start my own company. I know that if I work hard enough, and am as determined as I am now to succeed, I will.
