Thomas Shadwell

18 year old hobbyist programmer, avid reader and prospective medical student.

At least, that's what my twitter says.

I have competed in various Hack Days, as of my inaugural time at YRS 2011:

  • YRS 2011 - Google's "Best Example of Coding" prize. (A plaque!)
  • RSParliament - "Better understanding of the work of Parliament" (Some Champagne!)
  • Londonrealtime - Geckoboard prize (An Asus Transformer Prime!)
  • National Hack the Government Day - Wallace and Gromit prize (a book!)

Among other things, I am interested in AI, Neurology, Psychology, Philosophy and Linux.

I've also been interviewed by a norwegian blog, which was cool.

I often take part in C3L6- I'm currently 7th in the world.

I've been able to code since I was 11 years old. I learned by trying to work out how MSN spaces worked, I learned how to use linux when I was 14 years old, by attempting to recover data from a broken filesystem through knoppix.

My first programming language was Visual Basic, then I went on to learn PHP, C# and python. I occasionally attempt lisp and c++.

I know HTML, CSS, (some) Javascript, processing, bash and batch too.

I'm good with GIMP, I can do pretty advanced photomanipulation, though I often favor CSS3 alternatives nowadays.

My computer is Arch Linux/Windows 7.

I run openbox via CDM with tint2, dzen2 and nitrogen.

I come from a very medical family, and it is from that my passion for medicine may have stemmed. My interest in computers grew of its own from my interest in the world around me.
