Tsolaire Aghamanoukian
Math teacher Tsolaire Aghamanoukian currently teaches children in sixth and seventh grade at Vahan & Anoush Chamlian Armenian School, a private institution in Glendale, California. With more than 13 years of experience as a teacher, Mrs. Aghamanoukian attempts to engage her students by using visual aids, including chocolate bars to help them learn fractions. In addition, each student in her class uses a miniature white board to write down answers because she believes it helps the learning process. Ms. Aghamanoukian’s teaching methods have earned her attention from the local newspaper.
Tsolaire Aghamanoukian draws on an extensive educational background, with degrees from premier institutions in Canada. She started at Concordia University, a public university in Montreal. Mrs. Aghamanoukian attended the school on a J.W. McConnell Scholarship and graduated in 1994 with a 4.0 grade point average and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. She then began graduate studies at Concordia. During this time, Tsolaire Aghamanoukian worked alongside the highly respected mathematician Anna Sierpinska to conduct research, and published an article called “An Ongoing Investigation of the Learning Process of Year 1 University Students.” Mrs. Aghamanoukian completed her Master of Arts in the Teaching of Mathematics at York University in Toronto in 1998, and later earned a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics, Science & Technology at the institution.
While a graduate student at Concordia, Tsolaire Aghamanoukian taught linear algebra and finite mathematics courses as a Teaching Assistant. Afterward, she found employment at ARS Armenian School of Toronto, teaching science and math to children in grades 5 through 11. She also spent a year teaching math and science at Vaughan Secondary School, before returning to ARS. In 2009, Mrs. Aghamanoukian joined the faculty at Chamlian Armenian School, where she teaches to this date.
Mrs. Aghamanoukian contributes to the Boy Scouts of America, The American National Red Cross, and the Armenian Relief Society. In her free time, she explores her interests in piano, classical music, cooking, and mathematics research.
