ETFO Special Education AQ Part 1
This course has taught me the tools and steps to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive learning environment for students of all needs and abilities. I have grown in terms of learning how to provide a universal design for learning and discovered various strategies of how to differentiate instruction which is something that I had struggled with before. I have come to recognize that everyone learns differently and that my multiple intelligences have influenced my own teaching practice. By sharing ideas and personal stories with colleagues through our discussion boards I have gained a new insight into special education in Ontario schools. Examples include hearing individual’s experiences of dealing with in school team meetings and the IPRC process. I got a better understanding of the history of special education in Canada and legislation that has been put in place to improve practices. I gained knowledge of the various categories and specific types of exceptionalities along with characteristics, classroom strategies and assessment methods. I feel that I have become equipped with the skills to help implement strategies that will help support learners of various needs and abilities in the future classrooms I will enter. I decided to include this image because it represents inclusion and this course has provided me with all the tools and strategies to creating an inclusive environment that supports the education of all learners.
