The Invisible Labor of Hope: Rossella BLUE Mocerino’s "The Dreamers"
NEW YORK, NY — Artist Rossella BLUE Mocerino opens her NoMad studio this June to debut The Dreamers, a series of paintings exploring the psychological weight and quiet defiance of the immigrant experience.
Moving away from the quietude of her previous interiors, Mocerino turns her lens to the "staged reality" of those reinventing themselves in America. Through the metaphors of the Mask and the Red Balloon, the series visualizes the exhausting labor of balancing two identities—the culture left behind and the future being built.
"For the immigrant, what looks like luck is actually a feat of engineering," Mocerino says. "It is the constant, invisible work of keeping family, history, and hope in the air at once. This series is about the warrior-like protection of one's own humanity."
Exhibition Highlights:
- Five Major Works: Including The Message and Illusion, which serve as the series' conceptual anchors.
- New Reveal: The first public viewing of The Bond, exploring the shared resilience of community.
- The Path Forward: A look at the final stages of the cycle, moving from survival toward liberation.
