Tyler J. Shepard

Associate Principal and PhD Student in Minneapolis, MN

I am an educational leader and doctoral student at the University of Minnesota, committed to building schools where students are known, supported, challenged, and prepared for success beyond high school. My work focuses on strengthening student engagement, developing strong instructional systems, and creating environments where both students and staff can thrive. I am especially passionate about aligning vision with daily practice, ensuring that the systems we build in schools translate into meaningful, measurable impact for students.

Across my career, I have focused on school improvement, instructional leadership, and student-centered programming for grades 9-12. This includes leading curriculum development efforts, supporting staff in instructional growth, and designing programs that address students' academic, social, and emotional needs. I have worked in both stabilizing and strengthening school systems, helping teams clarify priorities, improve consistency in practice, and elevate expectations while maintaining strong support structures for educators and learners alike.

My doctoral studies at the University of Minnesota further deepen this work, allowing me to connect research, theory, and practice in ways that strengthen my leadership and expand my ability to lead complex school systems. This experience continues to sharpen my thinking around organizational leadership, instructional improvement, and equity-driven school design, while directly informing the work I do every day in schools.

I view leadership as both strategic and relational. Strong schools are built through trust, shared purpose, and a commitment to continuous improvement. I strive to be a leader who listens carefully, acts intentionally, and supports others in doing their best work. Whether guiding instructional teams, supporting staff development, or shaping student systems, I focus on clarity, consistency, and meaningful impact.
