Tyler Kirby
Tyler Kirby was born in Arlington, Virginia in 1991. He lived in Northern Virginia, attending Loudoun County Public Schools, until 2010 when he moved to Richmond to study Photography and Film at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is currently a sophomore in the VCU Film program, on track to graduate in 2014 with a Bachelor in Fine Arts.
Influenced heavily by action films, Tyler Kirby enjoys working on projects with fast-paced visuals, featuring stunts and special effects. His background in music contributes to his style immensely, and he is well versed in the areas of music arrangement and sound design. He is experienced in a number of different software including the Final Cut Suite and After Effects.
While at Briar Woods High School, Tyler Kirby participated in almost every theatrical and musical production, and was captain of the school's award winning marching band. In his junior year, Tyler orchestrated the score for the spring musical "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" earning him a nomination for a Cappie* award for Best Creativity in the National Capital Area. During his senior year Tyler Kirby wrote, directed, edited, starred in, and produced the original motion picture "The Man From La Plancha". The feature ran 85 minutes, and was premiered in the school's auditorium for a $2.00 ticket charge. The premiere hosted over 300 attendees, and combined with DVD sales, generated almost one thousand dollars in profit.
During his time at VCU, Tyler Kirby has directed more than twenty short films, projects, and videos. While not working on his own films, Tyler has worked on several large-budget productions as a P.A., Assistant Cameraman, and Cinematographer. Tyler recently directed a PSA video for the Fender Music Foundation, which was featured on their website, and his short film "The Final Cut" was a crowd favorite at the VCU Digital Filmmaking Screening in 2011. Tyler worked as Co-Director on the short film "The Descent" with Graham Ohmer, which was featured in the James River Film Festival Student Showcase. He has also produced and directed several music videos for local Richmond and Northern Virginian musicians. Recently Tyler directed the music video for "Keep Your Body Moving", a song from the local band Lightspeed Rescue' album Celebration. The video was mentioned in The Ashburn Patch as a major contributor to the band's success. Tyler works primarily with DSLR video but is hoping to raise
