Tyler Rodgers

I am originally from Weirton, WV, but I began my music career in Frederick, MD. I played at a lot of coffee shops there; Frederick Coffee Company, The Mudd Puddle, and The Main Cup to name a few. My style, influences, and goals have really evolved since then. I used to play only acoustic/singer songwriter stuff before I relocated to West Liberty University. But during my second semester, I quit playing music altogether! In fact, I really stopped talking to people altogether. I went into isolation and took time and find who I am. During the summer of 2010, the only thing I did was work and listen to music. This is when I finally discovered what music really means. Real music is freedom. Having no restrictions on your creativity, to truly let your imagination go! I used to only think inside a box when writing songs; verse, chorus, verse, bridge. While this takes skill, I've now broken free from it. It inspired me to create two kinds of music. One is the no words, free for all, soundtrack stuff and the other is alternative/electronica. This genera goes back to my roots as a singer songwriter. It still carries the verse, chorus, verse form, but I now write with a poetic theme. So the songs really have something to say, as opposed to the cliché “baby I love you” tunes. Where am I now in life? Well, I know what I want. I found my sound, value education, and want to have as many life experiences as possible. Something I dream of is to make music for video games and movies. I love my alternative style, but my deepest passion is to set moods and create an atmosphere of sound. I want my music to reach into you and touch your soul. I want the music to make people feel something they haven’t felt before and to speak to them in a language they understand. If I can make them feel that way, then that is success to me. At the end of the day, as a musician and person, I am just happy to be doing what I was created to do.
