Tyler Swain
After graduating from Dorman High School in 2007, Tyler Swain sought to get the most from his time at Wofford College. Within two months of beginning classes that fall, he liquidated his savings to pursue a one-month foreign study opportunity in France. Tyler began video-blogging for the college to finance the rest of his trip and soon found himself working for the college's office of communications and marketing. After declaring a major in French, Tyler spent spring 2010 in Antananarivo, Madagascar exploring the population's national identity and social change.
Selected that year as Wofford College's 27th Presidential International Scholar, Tyler studied societal values over eight months on four continents during a time when revolutions and civil unrest were sweeping the globe. Leveraging his experience with video, Tyler filmed interviews with senators, community organizers, top economists, activists, students, journalists, and business owners seeking the answer to a single question: what makes any given society tick? His ensuing documentary is set to be released later this fall.
Realizing his innate interest in the world of business and finance during the course of his travels, Tyler has recently declared a second major in finance and will complete his degree this spring. Tyler's personal interests run the gamut from volunteering to graphic design, playing tennis to playing the violin, and learning new languages to engaging the local community.
