Ty Mikulik
Student in Orangeville, ON, Canada
Hey. I'm Ty Mikulik.
Orangeville is where I’m from. It’s a small town in Southern Ontario largely based around it's lacrosse program. I live there with my family, which consists of my mother, father, sister and dog. Like the town I live in, my family also revolves around lacrosse. My sister and I have both played since we were young. I have had the honor of being apart of 3 Canadian National championship teams and have the ambition to continue my playing career in the National Lacrosse League.
Anyways, the reason I want to be a teacher and stay in the education system started from a very young age. As a child, I grew up with a great role model as a mother, who also happened to be an elementary school teacher. Growing up being able to see the differences she was making in students and family’s lives, along with seeing how rewarding and enjoyable it was for her was a massive influence at that age. This interest was only reinforced with the teaching core I personally had through elementary and high school years. I could see myself in some of my teacher’s shoes. I would also love to allow students to want to go to gym class and get some physical activity, since in todays education system and society in general, physical activity is not very present anymore. The ability to be a coach as an aspect to my job is appealing to me so I can pass on my knowledge of sport which would be rewarding for myself as well as the students.
